The agreement, in plain English.

• You own your worlds. Completely. We take a license only as far as needed to run the product.
• Pay monthly, cancel anytime, keep access through the end of what you paid for.
• Make a world public and you invite others to pitch, vote, and back ideas — but nothing becomes canon unless you choose it.
• Don't upload what isn't yours, don't abuse the platform, and don't game votes, backing, or the affiliate program.
• We provide the tool as-is, and our liability is capped. Run a full export regularly — it's one click and it's free.

• You must be at least 16 to use CanonBoard.
• You're responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account.
• One person per seat. Sharing a single login across multiple people is not permitted on any plan.

• Paid plans are billed monthly or annually in advance. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled.
• Prices may change. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice, and changes take effect at your next renewal — never mid-cycle.
• Taxes are added where required by law.

• Paid plans include a monthly credit allotment, shared as one pool across the account. Monthly credits refresh each billing cycle and do not roll over.
• Credit packs purchased as add-ons do not expire while you maintain an active paid subscription.
• If you downgrade to Free, unused pack credits are retained on your account and become usable again when you resubscribe to a paid tier.
• Credits have no cash value, are non-refundable, and are non-transferable between accounts.

Everything you build in CanonBoard — characters, worlds, rules, plots, lore, uploads — is yours. We claim zero ownership of your intellectual property.

You grant CanonBoard a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, transmit, display, and process your content solely for the purpose of operating the service for you and the collaborators you authorize. That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backups retained for the windows described in our Privacy Policy.

You're responsible for the content you upload: you represent that you have the rights to it, and that it doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.

Subject to these terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use CanonBoard for your own creative and professional projects, including paid collaboration with the people you invite.

Don't use CanonBoard to:

• Upload content you don't have the rights to, or that infringes someone else's intellectual property or privacy rights.
• Interfere with the platform: no probing, scraping, automated bulk extraction, or circumventing plan limits or access controls.
• Manipulate a Board: no vote fraud, sock-puppet or automated voting, spam pitches, or coordinated schemes to distort the queue.
• Post pitches, comments, or other public contributions that are unlawful, hateful, harassing, infringing, or otherwise objectionable.
• Reverse engineer the service or use it to build a competing dataset or product.
• Resell access, share seats across multiple people, or misuse the affiliate program (see the Affiliate Program Terms).

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. For serious violations we may do so immediately; otherwise we'll warn you first.

• Account owners control seats, roles, and project access. You're responsible for the people you add.
• Removing a member revokes their access; content they contributed to your projects remains in the project and under the account owner's control.

When you make a project public, it becomes visible to anyone and gets a Board. People who join can submit pitches, comments, votes, and other contributions ("Contributions"), and can follow the project.

• You control your world. A Contribution is a suggestion. It does not become part of your canon unless you, as the project owner, choose to canonize it. You may hide, remove, or decline any Contribution, and make a project private again at any time.
• Contributors keep their rights but grant the licenses needed to run the Board. If you submit a Contribution, you represent you have the right to do so, and you grant CanonBoard and the project owner a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to host, display, adapt, and incorporate that Contribution into the project's world and canon, including in exports and derivative works of the project.
• Attribution. When an owner canonizes a Contribution, we retain the contributor's name/handle with it as credit. Canonization does not, by itself, create any ownership, employment, partnership, or compensation obligation between owner and contributor beyond what these terms and any backing/payout described below provide.
• Moderation. Project owners are responsible for moderating their Boards. We may also remove Contributions or restrict accounts that violate the Acceptable Use section.

• Backing and tips are voluntary payments made by audience members to support a pitch or a project. Payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe); by paying, you also agree to their terms. Backing raises a pitch's position in the queue but never guarantees it will be canonized — creative decisions remain with the owner.
• Non-refundable. Because backing and tips are voluntary support, they are generally non-refundable except where required by law or in cases of demonstrable fraud or error.
• Platform fee and creator payouts. CanonBoard retains a 15% platform fee on audience funding (backing and tips) and the project creator keeps 85%. That is the only deduction: card payment processing is paid by CanonBoard out of its share, and there is no listing fee and no withdrawal fee. A $10 contribution pays the creator $8.50, at every amount and on every plan. Creators add a PayPal payout address and may withdraw their available balance once it reaches a $25 minimum. Payouts are sent to the PayPal address on file, subject to identity/tax verification and applicable law, and may be adjusted for refunds, chargebacks, or fraud. Creators are responsible for any taxes on funds they receive. Fee and threshold terms may change on notice.
• No investment. Backing is support, not an investment, security, loan, or purchase of equity, revenue, or ownership in any project or in CanonBoard, and it entitles you to no financial return.

Participation in the affiliate program is optional and governed by the separate Affiliate Program Terms, which are incorporated into these terms for participating affiliates.

• Cancel anytime from your account settings. Your plan stays active through the end of the period you've paid for. No prorated refunds for partial months.
• On downgrade, projects and features beyond your new plan's limits become read-only. We never delete your content because you downgraded.

You can delete your account at any time. We may terminate or suspend access for material breach of these terms, for legal reasons, or if continuing service would expose us to risk. On termination, the license you granted us in Section 5 ends, subject to the retention windows in the Privacy Policy.

Full Export is available on every plan, including Free. Export features may vary by plan. You're encouraged to keep your own copies of work you can't afford to lose.

CanonBoard is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We maintain backups, but you are responsible for keeping your own exports of work you can't afford to lose.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claims arising from these terms or the service is limited to the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages, including lost profits or lost content.

You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your use of the service in violation of these terms, or your violation of any third party's rights.

These terms are governed by the laws of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before filing any formal claim, both sides agree to try to resolve the dispute informally by contacting contact@canonboard.com.

We may update these terms. For material changes, we'll give at least 30 days' notice by email and in the product. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
